The University of Zadar, located in the coastal city of Zadar, Croatia, is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Europe, with roots dating back to 1396. Originally established as a Dominican Studium Generale, it played a significant role in the region’s academic and intellectual history, making it the first university in Croatia. While the institution underwent changes over the centuries, including a period of discontinuation in 1807, it was re-established in its current form in 2002.

Today, the University of Zadar thrives with 27 departments, including several related to linguistics and the humanities, making it an ideal venue for academic conferences in these fields. The university’s main campus is located in the heart of the city, overlooking the picturesque Adriatic Sea, while other departments are spread across multiple locations, including a modern campus with state-of-the-art facilities. The blend of historic and contemporary elements creates a rich academic environment, ideal for fostering scholarly exchange and research.
